False and Misleading Advertisement/ Bait and Switch

I have been contacted by Direct TV and have connected them several times regarding "promotional" programs that they are offering for a "limited time" and they are all VERY misleading. The ads refer to things like "Free" HD/DVR receivers for up to 4 rooms, High Definition for the entire house. However, when you call them, you realize that although you get the equipment to "receive" high definition television, you don't get the HD signal. You guessed it, you can purchase that signal if you would like what was described in the advertisement but the once $29.99 per month fee that was now being offered as a "Limited Time" promotion for $19.99 per month is really $39.99 per month once you purchase everything you need to actually get HD TV for your home. They relentlessly call and mail me promotional items directly or through their third party vendors and packaged the same pile of poop differently. Direct TV%u2019s advertisements are extremely misleading and a total bait and switch when you call. Lawsuits have been filed against Direct TV for this and settlements against Direct TV have been awarded to customers for these tactics. It may be time to band together and take action with these types of cable providers. The sad thing is, they all do it. I am waiting for the cable model to change and networks to go direct to consumers in real time via the internet and crush the cable providers like the telephone companies experienced years ago. We remember the days of making long distance calls to cities and states next door, well those gouging techniques stopped when consumers choose a different delivery platform. Let's make this happen.
